6 Steps to Creating a Magical Children’s Tea Party

Every young child dreams of attending a tea party in their fanciest outfits. Why not bring this idea to life for them?

From a classic English tea party to a whimsical fairy gathering, the opportunities are endless!

At Village Kids, we want to help you create a magical day for your little ones. Our guide will walk you through the planning process and party ideas that are bound to put a smile on your child’s face.

1. Theme Selection

The theme of your child’s tea party is the most important factor. This sets the tone for decorations, outfits, food, and activities.

Here are our best ideas for your theme:

  • Classic English tea party: Think classic elegance and charm. This could include lace tablecloths, fine china, floral arrangements, and pastels.
  • Garden party: Host a traditional garden party with fun party food, picnic blankets, rustic tupperware, and garden games.
  • Fairy tale fantasy: knights, fairies, and princesses, oh my! This sounds like a magical evening. This theme is perfect for a costume party and enchanted scavenger hunts.
  • Teddy bear picnic: Get the teddy bears involved in your child's tea party. This is perfect for a cosy and comfy gathering, with blankets, storytime, and dress-up stations.

2. Invitations

Whether your child is inviting a few friends or a large group to their tea party, handwritten invitations can add an extra touch of magic.

You could get your child involved in the creative process, crafting invitations from cards. Incorporate the theme of the tea party into the invitations, for example, add lace and pears to an English tea party invitation.

For a more convenient approach, you could design the invitations digitally and print them off or email them to parents, saving you time and money.

3. Decorations

To make it simple, we’ve compiled a list of all the essential decorations for an enchanting evening:

  • A small table or picnic blankets
  • Plates and utensils
  • Centrepieces (flowers, outdoor lamp)
  • Banners and bunting
  • Balloons
  • Antique decor (rustic candle holders, teacups, tablecloths)
  • Fairy lights

4. Tea Party Menu

Now to one of the most important parts, the food! Here are some ideas to get you started on your delicious menu:

  • Finger sandwiches- ham and cheese, egg salad, and tuna.
  • Scones- jam and cream.
  • Pastries and biscuits- mini eclairs, macarons, cookies, and sausage rolls.
  • Mini pizzas- ham and cheese, margarita, pepperoni, and vegetables.
  • Fruit- strawberries, blueberries, bananas, oranges, and melon.
  • Sweet treats- jellies, crisps, chocolate, and cupcakes.
  • Drinks- fruit juice, lemonade, milkshakes.

5. Activities and Games

A tea party calls for lots of fun entertainment and games.

It’s time to dig out the old board games and lay out your child’s teddies and toys in a row. For a fairytale party, purchase some toy swords, crowns, and wands for make-believe play. If you have the time, create a scavenger hunt and hide some prizes for an exciting side quest.

You could even create a craft station filled with paint, an arts and crafts box, and paper so the kids can get creative. This could even involve them creating their own crowns and capes for the party.

Some great interactive games include musical chairs, hide and seek, pin the tail on the donkey, and twister.

6. Outfits
